A short 'Flash' for you all

Dont' worry, you can uncover your eyes, I'm not going to flash myself at you! ;p

But I do have a short flash story to show you all. Hope you like it!

The Servant

Esmerelda stood impatiently. She would be shunned for this, thrown out of the Castle by her parents, if they knew what she was doing...who she was doing. A slight noise down the hall made her jump. Was this her lover? Or was she to be caught, loitering in the servants passages. Footsteps... a door opening... more footsteps. As she tried to keep herself hidden in a doorway, a hand reached round the corner. The love of her life had came, as promised.

'I thought you weren't going to show'

'I wouldn't miss the chance to hold you my love. Quick, this way'.

The pair headed off through a door to the right, it lead to the servants quarters. To the left was her lovers bedroom, the room they were about to make love in. Esmeralda ducked through the doorway to the bedroom, and quickly dis-robed herself. She stood in front of her lover, naked, and in desperate need of touch.

'You look so beautiful Esmerelda, seeing you has been the only thing that has kept me going all day'.

And with that statement, Es reached up and gently slid her lovers top off, unclasped her bra, and very sweetly began to caress her breasts. This was the night she had been waiting for, Rachel was the love of her life, she was sure of it.

***REVIEW*** A Rose Between the Thornes by Raven McAllan

You all need to read this book! I need to read the first 2 in the series :/ I do have them to read though (actually a lovely signed by Raven paperback!) so will have to move onto them soon!

Anyway, back to this one. Raven does not displease with her latest regency story. A story of literally, a Rose between two Thornes :) I was a bit taken aback by the way the 2 handsome men, Jasper and Nathaniel, get Lady Rose (Sophia she likes to be known as), to participate in their menage, but actually after reading the whole thing, she knew what was going on lol!

I loved the dominance in the 2 men, and the way they spoke, oh I think it's the way they speak that gave me goosebumps throughout!

I don't want to divulge any further for fear of giving away spoilers, but please people, get your hands on this little beauty... like... now!

World Autism Awareness Day!

Today, April 2nd 2013, is the sixth annual World Autism Awareness Day. People celebrate this day with fundraising and awareness-raising events all over the world.

Today hits me personally. Both of my lovely children have been diagnosed with Autism. Chloe is 4 now, and Jack is 3. Luckily we were able to get them both diagnosed at young ages, although Jacks diagnosis came later than Chloes.

We have had a lot of obstacles thrown our way over the last 2 years since the diagnosis.  We've had the dodgy looks from other parents when one of the children is having a meltdown somewhere. We've had to stop going to the supermarket as Jack has severe sensory issues with the lights, noises, people etc, which means we've had to so all our shopping online.

We've seen many specialists. M Our Speech Therapist, J our Child Psychologist, Dr J our Pediatrician,  K our Health Visitor, and various other assistants and behavioural therapists. At the minute we're struggling with waiting to hear whether Chloe will be able to continue on into the mainstream school in September, that she currently attends for Nursery. These 2 weeks will be hell waiting for that email. Waiting to hear from the local autism school for a visit for Jack to start there in september.

I remember first finding out. I remember first even thinking about Autism. I had been reading a book by Jodi Picoult called 'House Rules' in which the main character has Aspergers Syndrome. I started noticing little traits between the character and my Chloe were similar. We had concerns about her speech etc, so eventually got through to our Health Visitor who agreed with us, adn it shot off from there. 6/7 months later, she had her diagnosis of ASD. Just as Chloe got her diagnosis, we had been to see the speech therapist about Jack too. And again, another 6/7 months later, he had his diagnosis too.

I remember someone telling me, 'It won't be autism, autistic children don't love, don't show emotion, won't cuddle you etc etc'. How wrong that statement was. Both of my children love nothing more than a lovely big hug, thety are full of  smiles and laughter. I mean of course they have their problems, the tantrums, the violence sometimes, the behavioural issues, but I love them more than life itself.

A lot of people don't understand Autism, not their fault, they aren't ignorant to it, they just don't know about it. But I always encourage people to read up a little, find out what it's about. So come on and read a little something about Autism, ask me questions if you're curious, I'd rather people asked than didn't.

Raise awareness of Autism.

Also I'd like to share a picture of my tattoo which I got for my children. It is a quote about Autism which I think fits my family perfectly.

***REVIEW*** My Dad's a Policeman by Cathy Glass

Ryan is 12 and streetwise. He lives with his mother and younger brother, Tommy, on a large run-down council estate. Their mother is an alcoholic who can't look after her sons. Ryan does his best to stop Tommy and him being taken into foster care, but it isn't enough. One afternoon, social workers suddenly arrive at school and take the brothers away. They are separated and sent to different foster carers. Ryan is very angry.

Book 2 of my Glass-A-Thon!!!


This is part of the Quick Reads collection, which are short books by well known authors.

A good little read this was, about a little boy called Ryan who is taken from school one day, adn into a foster home. But he is really worried that his little brother Tommy has been placed in a seperate foster home, and he is really worried about his mother at home alone, without her sons.

Ryan takes off during the first night of his foster placement, and goes home, vows to find Tommy and run away with him. Does it go as it should? Yes, but not in the way Ryan had planned.

No spoilers from me on this one as it's just a short book anyway, but I really enjoyed it!

*** REVIEW *** Damaged by Cathy Glass

WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS YET!!!

The Sunday Times and New York Times Bestseller. Although Jodie is only eight years old, she is violent, aggressive, and has already been through numerous foster families. Her last hope is Cathy Glass…

Cathy, an experienced foster carer, is pressured into taking Jodie as a new placement. Jodie's challenging behaviour has seen off five carers in four months but Cathy decides to take her on to protect her from being placed in an institution.

Jodie arrives, and her first act is to soil herself, and then wipe it on her face, grinning wickedly. Jodie meets Cathy's teenage children, and greets them with a sharp kick to the shins. That night, Cathy finds Jodie covered in blood, having cut her own wrist, and smeared the blood over her face.

As Jodie begins to trust Cathy her behaviour improves. Over time, with childish honesty, she reveals details of her abuse at the hands of her parents and others. It becomes clear that Jodie's parents were involved in a sickening paedophile ring, with neighbours and Social Services not seeing what should have been obvious signs.

It’s clear that Josie needs psychiatric therapy, but instead Social Services take Jodie away from her, and place her in a residential unit. Although the paedophile ring is investigated and brought to justice, Jodie’s future is still up in the air. Cathy promises that she will stand by her no matter what – her love for the abandoned Jodie is unbreakable.

Book 1 in my Glass-A-Thon!

I picked this book up a few days go as Cathy Glass has very kindly agreed to guest on my blog. So I decided to do a Glass-A-Thon and read as many of her books as I can :) I have since been told by a friend that this is the hardest of Cathys book to read, and I started with it.

This is the story of Jodie, an 8 year old girl who has very aggressive tendancies. Whilst reading the book, you soon find out why.

Jodie had been through five foster carers in just four months, so Cathy agreed to take her in to her home and help her. Cathy soon learns when speaking to Jodie, that her parents and their friends sexually abused her, she was part of a paedophile ring. The abuse you hear about in the story is awful, I had to stop reading a few times, sometimes to tell myself that this was real and not fiction, and other times because I couldn't see the writing infront of me for the tears dripping from my face. I cried a lot reading this book. I cried when Cathy first finds out, from Jodie, about the abuse she suffered at the hands of her father, mother, and other sickening people. I cried when Cathy said goodbye to Jodie at the end when she went to live in a theraputic residential unit. Basically, I cried when Cathy cried.

Poor Jodie was such a little character bless her heart. She was very anxious, aggressive and angry at first. But the more the story moves on, and the longer she lives with Cathy and her family, the more she becomes used to them, and the more she feels safe around them. Jodie had 2 alter egos, Amy and Reg. Amy was a baby, Reg was an extremely angry man. Cathy describes meeting these alter egos, being kicked and spat at by Reg, and having to comfort Amy when she wet herself. And the hallucinations Jodie has, I can't even begin to imagine what this poor girl went through.

Cathy and her family helped Jodie so much, Cathys own children helping out as much as they could, even when they were kicked themselves by Jodie. It was nice to be able to read at the end, that Cathy and her family still have contact with Jodie, and to hear although she is still at the unit, she is doing better. And it was also great to hear that her father was jailed for the awful awful thigns he done.

After reading jsut this one book from Cathy Glass, I can imagine exactly what a kind woman she is to take on all of these unfortunate children and help them. An extremely kind thing for someone to do.

I am looking forward to reading more of her stories, and looking very forward to chatting with her :)

Well, one of my good friends took it upon herself to ask Cathy Glass if she would like to guest on my blog sometime. I got an email from her and she said she'd love to! I was very shocked but very happy she has agreed.

So, I don't want her turning up on my blog to realise I haven't read any of her books before :/ I know, naughty me huh. So in light of this, I have decided to have a Glass-A-Thon! I have just finished one of her books, and will be starting another soon. I'm going to try to get through as many of her books as I can, and then will ask her to come along and join me here for a chat.
