***REVIEW*** Tequila Dirty (The Hard Stuff 3) by Mickey J Corrigan

Something bad has happened in Dusky Beach, and Rita Deltone, a tough talking waitress from Lemon Run, Florida, is smack in the middle of it. Waking in a hospital with a bandage on her head and her hands tied to the bed can't be good. Yet, she knows all too well the dirt road she took to get down so low and doesn't mind taking the long way around in the telling.

Liam Donell is the new detective in town. His partner is on vacation so he has to handle all the dirty work. The suspect sure has a strange story to tell. But this Rita chick is pretty smokin’. In fact, she's so hot, he's not making the best decisions regarding the case. Then it turns ugly.

An unlikely couple, Rita and Liam try to make the best of a bad situation with steamy, hilarious, and surprising results.

In the past I have received books from Ms Corrigan, and have read the first two books in The Hard Stuff series, so was pleased to read book 3 too. I enjoy these short novellas. They all seem to link in a bit, but are totally different.

In Tequila Dirty we find Rita in her local bar, and she happens upon a man who asks her if she wants to make $10,000 tonight. I mean who could say no right? But after agreeing to the plan, things go awry and she ended up in a hospital with a god almighty crack on her head.

The story is told in 3 parts. Part one is Rita, part 2 is Liam (Detective O'Donnell), and part 3 is Rita again (or is it?). I liked this story as it threw me completely. You think you know something, then don't, then it changes up again!

Rita is one feisty little lady, and tot be honest I think I'd want her on my side! Read it, and if you haven't read the first 2 in the series, get those too!

Next door to Theresa, eighty year old Oscar lives in a rental house. When Oscar's new roommate arrives, a good-looking body god, Theresa is both curious and disgusted. A brash New Yorker, Vario says what he's thinking and looks sexy as hell doing it. The brawny mountain of pumped muscle is mega alpha male.

 

Vario invites his friends from a local strip club to party in his backyard hot tub. This makes Theresa angry. In fact, Vario continuously makes Theresa feel and do things she wasn't expecting.

A rollercoaster ride of screw-ups, lust and love makes this sexy little story a fun read.

After reading Mickey's first in 'The Hard Stuff' series and enjoying it, I couldn't turn down the second book, and I'm glad I didnt. A great novella, not a very long read.

 

When the very sexy 'bod God' as Theresa calls him, moves in as a roommate next door, he and Theresa don't exactly hit it off. In fact, she thinks he hates her! He's a pretty hot gym instructor, who seems to love playboy bunnies and hot rub parties. 

I quite liked Theresa, she just seemed like she'd hit a hard patch that she couldn't get out of. At first Vario seemed a bit if a pain in the arse to be honest lol! But I kinda liked his sass, and yeah I did like his character by the end.

I didn't feel any chemistry between the two though, although you could tell hiw he made Theresa feel when he was around her! 

A rather good little novella, and I really liked the ending.

I grabbed this book when it was free on kindle, the blurb seemed interesting, and Mickey visited my blog a little while ago and chatted about it.

Its a short novella with a taboo subject behind the story.

Tami-Lee meets the new bartender in her littls home town, and what a sight Mr Cat Avery is! But we soon find out that Cat has recently been released after being arrested for having child pornographic photos on his work computer. He swears he waa set up, but being labelled a SO (sex offender), will people believe him? And is he telling the truth? 

Well Tami-Lee will soon find out as they end up in bed together, and soon he moves into her motel room with her.

I liked both characters in the story. Tami-Lee is a bit of an...erm...tart shall we say? She is known as rhe girl who flirts and sleeps around. But after meeting Cat you see a softer side to her (kind of) as ahe starts to really fall for him. Cat was rather sexy, and quite friendly too. 

A nice little novella, I'd definitely read more of Mickey's stories.

Interview with Mickey J. Corrigan about her new release Whiskey Sour Noir

Hi Mickey :D Thanks for stopping by today!

Please tell us a little about yourself.

My real name is Virginia Aronson. I published lots of books, articles, poetry and fiction before I adopted a pen name. Mickey J. Corrigan was "born" a couple of years ago with my first romantic comedy, the little ebook novella Dream Job. Since then, I've published five more novellas and a novel, Sugar Babies, a romantic thriller about professional girlfriends.

Sometimes I think I might kill off Mickey. Just for fun. But her new series has been launched by The Wild Rose Press, so I can't get rid of her just yet. The first book in The Hard Stuff series is Whiskey Sour Noir. It's only available on Kindle right now, but will be everywhere starting March 5^th.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

Whiskey Sour Noir is about Tami Lee Conkers, a tough chick who works in a homeless shelter and hangs out in dumpy bars. She falls for Cat Avery, this gorgeous, intelligent man. But he's a convicted sex offender out on probation. His life is totally screwed, yet he insists he's innocent. She wants to believe him.

I was inspired to write this novella by a real story a friend of mine told me. His brother-in-law was accused of buying child porn. The legal battle ruined his reputation, his career and his marriage, and he ended up committing suicide. But he insisted he did not download those horrible photos onto his computer at work. I kind of believed him. It's just too easy for someone else to do this to a person, then turn them in. And it can absolutely destroy their life.

When did the characters first pop into your head?

About 24 hours before I began writing the story. I wasn't sure how it would all work out in the end, but I wanted to let Tami Lee explore her ability to love someone who was in such trouble with the rest of the world. Could she believe in him when nobody else did?

Cat Avery is such a hunk, a girl can't help falling for him. Yet, being a convicted sex offender in this culture is as low as it gets. So the conflict is very real.

Without giving away any spoilers, was the story always straightforward for you to write, or did it pop up any surprises along the way?

The story has more humor than I expected. As I was writing, I had no idea where their love was heading. The Gulf Stream had stopped flowing, altering the weather and wreaking chaos, and the entire world was freaking out. So there was a global crisis to contend with too. I had to hope everything would work out for Tami Lee and Cat Avery… and the rest of the planet.

Where do you like to write?

I write at my desk. I used to write in libraries and cafes, but now I like being in my little office with the sun shining in.

Do you read a lot?

I'm a huge reader. I read at least two books a week. Right now I'm reading essays by George Saunders and an academic book about dying. And for enjoyment, a novel by Jennifer Egan. 

Who are some of your favourite authors?

Too many to list! Top favorites include Charles Bukowski, Bret Easton Ellis, Denis Johnson, David Benioff, Daniel Woodrell and Dennis Lehane. Just to name a few. For anything economic, Michael Lewis is fantastic. I also love Tom Wolfe. Jay McInerney. Andre Dubois. Haruki Murakami. Nick Flynn is exceptional; I just went to a reading the other night and he was terrific. I find new authors I like all the time, too. I just discovered Jennifer Egan and she's amazing. There are so many talented writers out there.

And last but not least, have you any words of wisdom for aspiring writers out there?

Read a lot. Read, read, read!

As for writing, start small. First write a flash piece, real short fiction. Then write another one. Keep practicing. Get sharper, polish your words. Once you feel skilled at the short pieces, move up to writing longer stories. Or a novel.

Keep at it. It's tough to tell a story well, to develop interesting characters who can engage readers. Writing takes more practice than talent. It's a craft. You gotta put in the time.

I'm an editor and I work with people every day who want to publish. I always advise my clients: do not be afraid of editing. And never be afraid of rejection. This is all part of the process of publishing your best work. Keep trying. The writers who succeed are the ones who keep at it.

So don't stop believing!

ESME: September First

 

      Not that she wanted to make love to this man. She didn’t. Not at all. But for the first half-hour, she thought they might be able to negotiate an arrangement, and then her troubles would be over. Soon enough, however, her hopes flattened faster than the bubbles in her crystal champagne flute. He was hideous, yet here she sat, smiling sweetly, reminding herself to sit up straight, bust high and proud, displaying the obvious to the undeserving.

       “I like a bright gal, one who can hold her own in a social setting, ask smart questions, be witty,” he said around greedy bites of bloody prime rib. “But she’s gotta keep her mouth shut when it’s not time to talk. See, I like a girl who carries herself like a lady, somebody I can trust to not say something stupid when I take her along on business.”

      He pronounced it bidnez, like a ham actor in a grade B mob movie.

      “You gotta be able to make conversation with the smartest guys in the room, but not take over the room. Got that?”

      He smacked his lips, swallowed a chunk of meat. Glug. She had an unwanted image of his epiglottis at work. Very unpleasant. Still, he owned an international corporation, had homes in four countries, six (count ‘em, six!) Ferraris and a Gulfstream.

      Esme smiled hard enough to make her dimples show. She brushed her long blonde hair from her eyes, leaned across the banquet table to allow him a deep gaze at her exceptional cleavage, and whispered, “I have an undergraduate degree in computer science. I’m fixin’ to get my master's in business law. At Duke. My father is a retired diplomat. I do think I come across as educated. And well-bred.”

      She drawled enough to make her invented-on-the-spot resume sound like a come on. Her date reached out a clammy hand, grasping her sun-bronzed forearm. His grip was hard, cold. When he bared his teeth in a wide grin, the mouthful of dull gray dental amalgam matched what was left of his greased back hair.

      Esme let him play with her fingers. His thumb reminded her of undercooked pork sausage. She waved her free hand at their surroundings, the starched white tablecloths, the hushed waiters in stiff aprons, the four hundred dollar bottle of Dom Perignon Vintage 1995 in the silver ice bucket between them.

      She said, “I like nice things, so I’m comfortable spending time with men who appreciate the finer aspects of life. Men who are educated and discriminatin’. Like yourself.”

      Theatre classes would have been the logical prepatory courses for something like this. Had she only known what she’d actually need in life when she actually was in school. But she hadn’t known. How could she have predicted where life would take her?

      He licked his thin blue lips. Like a mangy old lion examining a gazelle. On a plate. She shivered, but did not let go of his damp hand.

I loved this story. The scene in the train was one hot ride! But I loved how quite obviously Mark and Kate loved each other. Allie done well writing this story of 2 people in a long distance relationship,  I think she captured their longing for each other perfectly :)

Over A Dead Body by +Leona Bushman ★★★★

I quite enjoyed this story. I liked the start of the story, how Riker was automatically thought to have been the killer, and how it just so happened to be his ex who was called in to the scene ;) The sexual tension in this one was high between the 2 characters, and eventually you see where that tension takes them! 

Red, Whites and Blues by Mickey J Corrigan★★★★★

Fantastic story :) I loved how this one literally got straight down to the dirty. Rolling around in the sand, naked with a hot stranger, what a way to spend your day! But I got goosebumps during the last few paragraphs. Those last paragraphs were my favourite, very sweet indeed :)

A hot short from Angelica. I liked this one, the passion between husband and wife was huge. I can't begin to imagine what it is like not to see your other half for long periods of time, but if the reunion is anything like what these guys had, I'm sure all those who have moments like this, always enjoy it :)

First Date: The Italian Colonel by Jessabelle Jones★★★★★

This was another quick story, but a good one. The Colonel was a damn fine Italian, who seemed like the type of guy who could stop hearts in an instant! Great sex scenes in this one too, I liked the truck scene ;)

Majors Minah by +Raven McAllan ★★★★★

Wow. Ms McAllan has a way with words, and certainly has a way with her historical romances ;) I really enjoyed this and would love to read more of Minah and Olivers life together. 

Knock Out by Natalia Petrovskii★★★★

A lovely story about Nicole and Ryan. Both like to spar with each other in the gym, until one day, even though Nicole thinks he's an arrogant pig, Ryan changes things and kisses her. There starts a lovely relationship, and plenty of secret sex :)

A Chance at Love by +Shelli Rosewarne ★★★★

Suzanne is told right at the start that her brother has been killed in action, which devastates her and her brothers friend Aiden who came to give her the news. Aiden stays over as he can't get straight back home, and Suzanne sees and opportunity to feel something more than just pain for a while. a lot of sex later, a beautiful love story arrived :)

Jade and mike meet again, him a good friend of the family, 6 months after a wild night of passion together. Now at first I was like 'wtaf! Shes gonna drug him!' But when you see she doesn't its all good :) a good story from Zara!

Riding Out the Storm by Natalia Petrovski★★★★★
I liked this one. Anna and Kyle both have to take shelter in a cabin somewhere when a storm comes in while they're on a training exercise. Anna has always known Kyle was a good looking dude, and certainly finds out just what he's capable of when they're alone together... freezing cold.... and need a way to keep warm ;)

All in all I give this book 5 stars! I've already read some works from some of these authors, and like them, now I've found more authors too watch out for! I really enjoyed it (even though it took me a while to get through as I've been kinda ill quite a bit recently), and look forward to reading more stories from these authors :)
