***REVIEW*** Auctioned to Protect by Doris O'Connor

Title: Auctioned to Protect
Genre: Erotica, Contemporary, BDSM

Dom/sub relationships by Doris O'Connor

There are a lot of misconceptions out there about BDSM relationships, and what a true Dom/sub relationship is or what it means to be in the lifestyle. I always smile when I hear clearly defined rules on how a Dom or sub should act.
The truth of the matter is, every Dom/sub relationship is unique and defined by their individual circumstances. As long as the parties involved are consenting adults, and everything is safe, sane, and consensual, then what they do, how they define themselves, is really no one else's business.
At the end of the day, these are people. Human beings with baggage and needs, and emotions that can make them act out character.
Take my relationship with my husband for instance. He's my best friend, my life partner of the last twenty-six years, the father of my children, and for the last two years also my Sir.
We came to the lifestyle late, though looking back on our relationship, he's always been the Dominant party, in the bedroom at least. Whilst I have no problems making decisions in every other aspect of our lives, I couldn't dominate myself out of a wet paper bag in a sexual setting, and the truth of the matter is, I really don't want to either.
There is something incredibly freeing about giving over control to someone you love and trust, someone completely focused on your needs, someone who will push you out of your comfort zone, and make you fly.
When Sir is, well, Sir, he does that for me. Does that mean he doesn't have moments of self-doubt? Or times when he needs me to simply hold him? Of course not. This is real life and we are a partnership. I may be his collared sub, but that doesn't mean I leave my brain cells at the door, or am not capable of running my own life.
I was once told by someone that I'm too bratty to be a sub.
*sniggers*
Well, I may have been too bratty to be his sub, but then, quite frankly that particular Dom was a pompous arse, as my Sir called him. In fact it was just as well this was on-line and not face to face or Sir might have taught that 'Dom' a lesson or two.
In my writing too, the rules blur. In fact, being a submissive myself, writing Scarlett was something of a struggle for me. In the end Sir came to my rescue. Don't get hung up about her being a Domme. Just listen to her and write how she feels. What will be, will be.
So, that's what I did, and as any relationship, Mike and Scarlett's is complicated, and so much more than just Dom/sub, whatever you perceive that to be.
One of my beta readers made me smile when she read the first draft.
"Finally, here is a Domme portrayed as a human being with emotions, not just a sadistic bitch."
*grins*
Don't get me wrong. Scarlett is very much in charge, and she does have a sadistic streak, but she is also fragile and feminine, and needs Mike as much as he needs her.
Their dynamics are as unique as they are, and I hope readers will like them as much as I loved writing them. J

Long Blurb:

Tough undercover cop Mike Anderson does not submit to anyone, let alone a pint sized bundle of curves with a Mistress Complex, who stands for everything he despises about BDSM.

Thrown into a world where the rules make no sense to him, he has to rely on his instincts, and they all scream one thing—submit to His Lady.

Scarlett Simpson is one of the most feared Mistresses at Club Spectrum and she has a score to settle. Mike's atrocious behavior needs addressing. If only she wasn't so attracted to the big hunk of a man, and he didn't prove so utterly responsive. As she explores his boundaries through Shibari and Knife Play, Scarlett can't help but get emotionally involved.

Submission freely given is a gift she treasures, but can she trust Mike to stay around once the case is over? When danger comes knocking, will Mike be able to protect her, or will this end in tragedy?

“Fuck, you feel so damn good around my dick, Scarlett. Look at us. Look how I stretch your tight hole. Jesus, baby, tell me this is as freaking good for you as it is for me.”
Scarlett dug her finger nails into his shoulders in answer and clenched around him, and Mike roared. He pulled out and thrust back in again, ramming her into the wall, as she hung on for dear life. Pain mixed with pleasure so intense she couldn’t breathe, couldn’t talk, just hung onto his big shoulders and took all the passion he gave her.
Here was a man brutally taking his own pleasure and sending her body sky high in the process. When he pulled out of her and dragged her over to the sink, Scarlett bit her lip so hard she tasted blood. Mike kicked her legs apart and then slammed back into her from behind. This position drove him deeper than before and when he reached around and stimulated her clit at the same time, Scarlett saw stars. Her whole body tightened in ever closer spirals of pleasure that started from deep inside her core. Impaled by his hot member, his harsh breath in her ear, one hand digging into her hips, the other mercilessly fingering her swollen clit, he pushed her toward a mind-splintering release. Higher and higher she climbed, and when Mike grasped one of her legs and shoved it over the edge of the sink, the move sent her over the edge.
He yanked her torso up and pulled it up against his chest, allowing him to sink deeper still into the clasp of her body. Ripples and waves of pleasure crashed over Scarlett, and she let her head fall back and gave herself up to the sensation rocking her body as Mike increased his tempo even more. Every forceful thrust lifted her off her toes, and Scarlett came a second time, or was it the third. Sensations merged into one, fire raced over her skin, and she screamed his name when he grew bigger still inside her and then grunted his release into her shoulder, and warmth spread deep inside her.
Mike lowered her leg with them both still joined as intimately as two people could be, and he locked his arms next to hers on the sink. By the time her breathing had slowed down enough to speak and her hazy vision cleared, Mike was slowly slipping out of her. She tightened her muscles to keep him in for longer and he groaned and rubbed his morning stubble across her neck. It left delicious tingles in its wake and Scarlett moaned her contentment.
Their gazes locked in the mirror and Mike smiled. Scarlett’s heart turned over in her chest at the open affection she saw in his azure eyes that seemed to bore straight into her very soul.
“Good morning, My Lady. I guess this beats coffee first thing.”

* * * *

She was so fucking beautiful, staring back at him with her huge green eyes, and her fair skin flushed from the force of her orgasms. A primitive sense of ownership grabbed him by the throat and squeezed the breath out of him, and he shut his eyes and nuzzled into the soft skin of her neck. A shudder went through her when he licked the rapidly beating pulse point and nibbled his way up to her ear. Scarlett ground her ass against his thigh and he groaned into her neck.
“You’re so fucking wet for me, baby.”
Scarlett turned around in his arms and gasped when he sat her on the edge of the sink and spread her legs wide. He dropped on his knees and inhaled against her wet slit. Scarlett’s intoxicating musk mixed with his own scent and he watched in fascination as their combined juices slowly trickled out of her pink flesh.
His cock signaled its interest briefly and Scarlett smiled down on him when he looked up.
“Have I broken you?” she whispered.
Mike laughed.
“Hardly, My Lady. Give me five and we’ll be ready to go again. In the meantime…”
He bent his head and delivered butterfly kisses along the incredibly soft skin of her inner thighs. It was one of Mike’s favorite places to linger on any woman, especially just after they’d come. Hot, sweet, and intimate, it called him to indulge, and he blew against her slit, causing an allover body shiver, as her clit contracted in front of his eyes.
“Mike, please… I’m so close again… Oh…yeees.”
It was all the encouragement he needed. Using short shallow strokes he cleaned her cunt, until no traces of their earlier encounter remained. He rubbed his beard-roughened chin across her clit, and placed her legs over his shoulder when she started to tremble. Scarlett’s fingers dug into his shoulders, and she pushed her hips up in a seeming effort to hurry him along, but Mike had his own plans.
He’d been far too rough on her earlier, regardless of how much she had been with him in the moment. Regardless of how much she seemed to have needed that brutal release. Besides he was fast getting addicted to the needy little moans and sighs she couldn’t stop from escaping. The way her fingernails scored his skin and her breaths grew choppier until her body tensed and her pussy clenched and unclenched, trying to draw in his tongue as her cream gushed into his waiting mouth.
He tunneled his fingers into her channel and her greedy little cunt clamped down on the digits, as she came in a series of delightful little tremors. Mike pulled out his wet digits and gathering up more of her cream as he went along, circled her anus and pushed in.
“Yes, there, take me there.”
Scarlett clawed at his skin and his semi hard dick roared into action. He added another finger to stretch her, and Scarlett bucked against him like a wild thing.

“Easy, baby, I’ve got you. I’ll make this so fucking good for you.”

Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris... at least that's what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.

There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.

She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.

I received a copy of this from the author in return for taking part in her blog tour, and giving an honest review :)

I've been looking forward to this book for along time now. I couldn't wait to see what happened with Mike, as if you've read the first book (Auctioned to the Honourable Dom), you'll know what I mean :D

I liked Mike a lot, after initially disliking him a lot in book 1. He is a pretty sexy cop, whats not to like?! Well at first he seems a bit of a tough guy, but you get to see the soft interior a bit, and see just how far his relationship with Ms Scarlett has developed.

Ms Scarlett, well what can I say? She's one tough lady! I mean, she has got a huge set of balls, but she's also a soft hearted woman on the inside who sometime just needs a cuddle and a bit of love too.

I loved the story of these 2, the whole undercover story of why Mike was there in the first place was really good, and finding out the reasons behind it all shocked me a bit!

As usual Doris writes her characters very well, and not just the main ones, but the small to the side characters who pop up once in a while.

Loved it!

Check out my interview with author Steve McHugh!

 BLURB

His name is Nathan Garrett, but he’s also known as Hellequin. And murdering one of his friends and trying to blow him up is a good way to get this centuries-old sorcerer’s full attention…
An old friend’s dead body, a cryptic note, and an explosion that almost costs him his own life propel Nate headfirst into a mystery involving a new threat from an old foe. Now he must piece together the connections between a grisly series of tattooed murder victims, an imprisoned madman, a mysterious alchemist, and a deranged plot to usurp the throne of the hidden realm of Shadow Falls, rival to the power of Avalon.
Can Nate avert the coming slaughter, or will he become the latest to fall in this clandestine war?
With the story careening between modern-day New York and Ontario and 1977 Maine, With Silent Screams continues the gritty and action-packed mix of urban fantasy and ancient mythology that mark Steve McHugh’s popular Hellequin Chronicles.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Please tell us a little about yourself
My name is Steve McHugh. I’m originally from a small town in South Yorkshire, England called Mexbrough, but I currently live in Southampton with my wife, 3 young daughters and pet bearded dragon called Kaiju. I’ve been writing to some degree or another since I was at school, but Crimes Against Magic was my first published work, which was in 2012. Since then I’ve published two sequels (the most recent of which was With Silent Screams) and a novella.

How did you come up with the idea for your book?
Like everything I’ve ever written the start of the idea comes from a tiny spark from something that interests me and it grows from there. In this case it was the idea that someone would murder the main character, Nathan Garrett’s, friend and then try to kill him. I wanted to know how he’d react to that. Badly for those involved was the answer.

As Nate used to be Merlin’s assassin, I also wanted to show more of the people who make up his past, hence Galahad. The two of them grew up together as friends in Camelot, but something happened to split that friendship and I wanted to explore that.

When did the characters first pop into your head?
Nate’s always in my head and has been for years. Which sounds terrifying, but it means I can figure out how he’d react to a situation with relative ease.

Apart from Nate, the first character I knew I wanted in the book was Galahad. I wanted someone from Nate’s past, someone who had known him for a long time, someone who definitely wouldn’t take any crap from Nate. Having two people, both sort of vying for that alpha-male spot, made for some fun interactions.

Without giving away any spoilers, was the story always straight forward for you to write, or did it pop up any surprises along the way?
Each of my books has two storylines. One set in the current time, and one set in the past. As Nate is a 1600 year old sorcerer, I’ve got a lot of past to choose from, but the past story has to link to the present one, otherwise what’s the point?

Once I’ve got the present plot figured out, the past portion of the book comes along pretty easily. But I don’t tend to plot out in detail. I usually have the main plot points I want to get to and roughly who is doing what, where, but the actual detail of each chapter I leave until I start writing it. If I did it any other way, I’d only ignore it and change things anyway, so this makes my life considerably easier. And it’s nice to be surprised.

Where do you like to write?
My office is my usual writing spot. It’s away from everyone else in the house and it’s quiet. Most of the time anyway. But I can usually write anywhere. I can block out noise around me, so it’s usually not too difficult to get a few things down when I have time.

Do you read a lot?
I used to read all the time, but I don’t get as much chance as I used to. I usually read a few books a month, alongside some comics. I’m just pickier about what I read these days.

Who are some of your favourite authors?

I have so many favorite authors from so many different genres; Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, John Connolly, Dan Abnett, Gail Simone, Sarah Pinborough, Jim Butcher, Stephen King, Warren Ellis, Greg Rucka, Robin Hobb, Richard Morgan, Kelley Armstrong, Karen Travis and many, many more. Those are just the ones off the top of my head.

And last but not least, have you any words of wisdom for aspiring writers out there?
Write what you like, what you enjoy. Don’t just write something because it’s popular or because someone told you that’s what you should write. Because if you don’t write something you care about, your readers will notice and can always tell what work an author put their heart into.

AUTHOR BIO
Steve’s been writing from an early age, his first completed story was done in an English lesson. Unfortunately, after the teacher read it, he had to have a chat with the head of the year about the violent content and bad language. The follow up ‘One boy and his frog’ was less concerning to his teachers and got him an A.
It wasn’t for another decade that he would start work on a full-length novel that was publishable, the results of which was the action-packed Urban Fantasy, Crimes Against Magic.

Steve McHugh lives in Southampton on the south coast of England with his wife and three young daughters. When not writing or spending time with his kids, he enjoys watching movies, reading books and comics, and playing video games.

Excerpt
I have no trouble spotting him—he looks like a picture. Business casual in grey pants and a pale blue button-down, sprawled across a plaid blanket with a picnic basket at his feet. His eyes are closed and his arms are folded behind his head.
I want to make a meal out of him.
Slowly, I move toward him, not wanting to disturb this image. I just want to savor him for a few more minutes.
A warm smile stretches across his face. Busted.
You like what you see?” he asks, eyes still closed.
I play it cool and take a seat next to him on the blanket, fighting the incredible urge to mount him.
The picnic?” I ask, refusing to feed his ego. “Yes, it looks fab.”
He opens his eyes and they look even brighter against his shirt. “So, that’s how you’re going to play it, huh?”
I have no idea what you’re talking about,” I smirk. How am I supposed to be sexy around this guy? He catches my every move. “I’m just very excited for our picnic.”
Well, I’m very excited to see you,” he says, before yanking me down on top of him.

Blog Tour, Author interview, and review; Kiru Taye's A Valentine Challenge!!!

Please tell us a little about yourself

Hi, everyone. My name is Kiru. I'm an author of multicultural romances, entrepreneur of a small run-from-home business, wife to a lovely man, mother to 3 beautiful kids, sister to 4 sometimes hilarious siblings, daughter to patient parents and hopefully friend to the lovely Dee as well as others.
Okay, I ran out of labels. LOL

How did you come up with the idea for your book?

Actually, the original idea came when I read a submission call for a Valentine anthology about 2 years ago. But when I started writing it didn't quite fit into the specifics so I decided to run with the story as a standalone.

When did the characters first pop into your head?

My characters tend to be quite visual and vocal when they want to be. The first to show up was Michael. In my mind, he was leaning against an SUV type car in the parking lot to a hotel. I started wondering what he was doing there and that's how the rest of the story developed.

Without giving away any spoilers, was the story always straight forward for you to write, or did it pop up any surprises along the way?

Well, you may not know this but I'm a pantser when it comes to writing stories. Planning totally stifles my creativity. I simply sit in front of my laptop with a blank page and type out the images I see in my head and what the characters say to each other.
So to answer your question, everything ends up being a surprise as I don't know what's going to happen until I type it.

Where do you like to write?

I like writing at the dining table in my kitchen, mostly. Otherwise, sometimes I have my laptop on my laps as I sit in my armchair in the bedroom.

Do you read a lot?

Yes! I love reading. I know some authors don't read when they are writing. I read every opportunity I get which isn't often enough sometimes.

Who are some of your favourite authors?

Tough one cause I'm discovering new authors I like every day.
If I have to think about authors that inspired me to write then Buchi Emecheta, a female Nigerian author inspired me as well as authors like Penny Jordan and Sandra Marton.

These days stories from Sylvia Day and Doris O'Connor among others, take my breath away sometimes.

And last but not least, have you any words of wisdom for aspiring writers out there?

I have four words for aspiring writers.
Read. Learn. Write. Revise.

Thank you for hosting me and my book on your blog today.

This is my review from a while back of the old version of the book, I haven't gotten round to reading the new updated version yet.

I received a copy of this from the author in return for an honest review.

I read this over 2 days, and I really liked it!

I have to say (and apologise greatly to Ms Taye), this is the first of her books I have read! And it certainly won't be the last.

I loved the story behind this, it reminded me of a great movie I love, 'She's All That' starring Freddie Prinze Jr and Rachel Leigh Cook. Michael is out with friends at a club, when Kasie walks in. Michael being the gorgeous woman eater that he is, is challenged by his friends to prove he can 'get' her. Off starts the challenge of wooing Kasie, but the catch? Well, Michael who owns his own car company and more, (and is rather rich by the way), is not allowed to let Kasie know who he is. Therefore he sets off and becomes her driver while she's in town.

Kiru has written this really well, and the chemistry between the 2 characters is unmistakable right from the start. His gorgeous eyes piercing into her through the rear view mirror, her heart beat getting faster every time she sees him. So I was really excited to see what this story would bring for them.

Michael sounded absolutely delicious! And I can imagine Kasie to be a very attractive lady too.  I liked the back stories that popped up from time to time to, but I won't spoil things for you by telling!

I really enjoyed this story, and I'm eager to get onto book 2 in the Challenge series!

Heather bit her lower lip and wondered what the hell she was doing in the sleazy hotel.
She looked around the room. It actually wasn’t sleazy at all. It was a very expensive hotel. Still, she must be fucking insane for being there.

She reached for the door handle, ready to make a quick exit, when the door swung open and Dominick entered the room. Without saying a word, he put his hands through her long dark hair and his mouth firmly on her soft lips. His kiss penetrated her very soul. Without removing his mouth from hers, he picked her up and placed her gently on the bed. He sat next to her and she reached for another kiss. She pulled at his clothing and quickly discarded her own. Before he was fully undressed, she was on him with her lips and hands, touching, kissing and licking every inch of his body. The pent up animalistic urges which she was forced to suppress in the bedroom with Peter were finally unleashed.

Her flesh was burning hot. She was hungry, famished, and Dominick fed her desire. She didn’t want to waste time with foreplay. She wanted him inside her – now.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR –

I am a newly published author of adult contemporary romance, geared toward male/male romance.

My debut novel, Jealousy, is a modern day 'Will & Grace' meets 'Sex & the City' - only hotter. A reviewer recently gave me a a tremendous compliment by comparing it to 'Jane Austen' meets '50 Shades".

In Jealousy, I am blending genres, in that it has both m/f and m/m romance. I am introducing the reader to m/m romance, in a way that is tender, touching and loving. I want to make m/m romance novels mainstream in the literary industry. I want to take it from the back shelf and put it on the front shelf. I want to walk into a major retail book store and see boy meets boy, right along side boy meets girl.
