***Review*** Passenger by Billy Cowie

Passenger by Billy Cowie

When a scan reveals that Milan is carrying his twin sister inside him, his world is turned upside down- or inside out. His new-found sibling Roma is a nicotine addict, finds sex altogether to bumpy and believes there are only 147 people in the world. She has never seen the moon, never tasted her favorite wine. But as Milan begins to introduce her to the world outside, he discovers to his surprise how much she has to teach him in return.

I picked this book up for 24p in my local book stores sale bin. I have to say I totally judged this book by the cover, I didn't even read the blurb just really liked the cover so bought it (and lets face it, for 24p you pretty much can't go wrong). Once I read the blurb, I was rather intrigued.

I read this over 3 days (it's only a short under 200 pages), and it was rather good.

Milan starts hearing tapping, and it's always in the form of classical music. He starts to think he's mad, but when his back starts to ache, he sees a doctor. Turns out, his unborn twin is inside of him. A rare case of Fetus-in-fetu. Now this really made me want to finish the book.

On the front cover there is a quote from The Guardian, which says 'A sweet and touching love story', and I couldn't agree more. The love between Milan and Roma is a great one.

I have to say though, I did think the book was a little fast paced, you'll understand when you read it yourself. I thought the things Milan taught Roma all seemed to go a bit fast, she learnt things rally quickly,, which to me sometimes seemed to make the story a little unbelievable. Like sometimes Roma and Milan would have conversations, and I thought this all felt like Roma wouldn't have actually understood what was being said and wouldn't have been able to answer the way she did.

But, it was a touching story, and I'm glad I found it!

Flash by me - The Photo

Hi all

Another flash here, I done this for a blog competition, but with the time difference between here and the US, I missed the deadline! Doh! The prompt ( from http://oneminutewriter.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/fff-photo.html) was:

All you have left is this torn photograph....

Here's the flash :)

I was still in shock, I couldn't quite get over what I'd found. Where had it come from?

I had been searching through some old things in the basement, and came across an old box of bits and bobs. There wasn't really anything important in there, or so I had thought. At first I found an old college t-shirt. I hadn't went to college, but for some reason the t-shirt seemed familiar. Then a diary, which had hundreds of very short enteries, all saying the same thing, but on different days, 'I love her, and I can't live without her. My lovely Lisa'. Strange? Who was Lisa?

Then I found it, the thing that had me baffled and so confused. I didn't know whether to cry, scream, call the cops...what do I do? It was a picture, torn in half. It was me on the image, smiling, happy in the sunshine. A nice picture of myself if I may say so. But whos was the arm around my shoulder? The persons face and body was on the other half of this picture somwhere. Then I froze... why did the caption written on the back read 'Lisa and me, our romantic getaway'?

A short 'Flash' for you all

Dont' worry, you can uncover your eyes, I'm not going to flash myself at you! ;p

But I do have a short flash story to show you all. Hope you like it!

The Servant

Esmerelda stood impatiently. She would be shunned for this, thrown out of the Castle by her parents, if they knew what she was doing...who she was doing. A slight noise down the hall made her jump. Was this her lover? Or was she to be caught, loitering in the servants passages. Footsteps... a door opening... more footsteps. As she tried to keep herself hidden in a doorway, a hand reached round the corner. The love of her life had came, as promised.

'I thought you weren't going to show'

'I wouldn't miss the chance to hold you my love. Quick, this way'.

The pair headed off through a door to the right, it lead to the servants quarters. To the left was her lovers bedroom, the room they were about to make love in. Esmeralda ducked through the doorway to the bedroom, and quickly dis-robed herself. She stood in front of her lover, naked, and in desperate need of touch.

'You look so beautiful Esmerelda, seeing you has been the only thing that has kept me going all day'.

And with that statement, Es reached up and gently slid her lovers top off, unclasped her bra, and very sweetly began to caress her breasts. This was the night she had been waiting for, Rachel was the love of her life, she was sure of it.

What did you think? Let me know :)
